Continue learning
It is crucial that everyone understand that remote
learning is not meant to be your traditional online learning experience.
Similar to face-to-face learning environments, online learning courses are
built over many months (or years) and incorporate a variety of learning
strategies and tools throughout the course. Hopefully you will have months to
prepare for transitioning to remote learning, but even if you do, it is
unrealistic to expect educators to transform their entire face-to-face course
into an online environment within a short period of time. Educators will not
have the time nor the resources to build comprehensive online lessons on every
core concept in their course. Additionally, many students will not have the
technology that is generally expected of a student who enrolls in an online
course. Remote learning is a strategic, measured approach to
ensure students' needs are met as best as possible when a school closure is
necessary. You and your colleagues, of course, can determine the goals you
feel are most necessary for your remote learning environment. We would suggest
the following goals for remote learning:
. Continue learning 2. Keep
the school community connected 3. Streamline the process
The number one goal for remote learning is to continue
learning for our students. The focus for that learning, however, shifts and changes
within a remote learning environment. The key is to understand that we cannot
approach remote learning exactly the same way we approach our face-to-face
classes. In short, we will need to simplify. Simplify our content; simplify our
processes; simplify our expectations.
